COVID-19: Two test positive in preliminary tests in Kangra
DHARAMSALA, 20 March: Two people have tested positive for coronavirus in the preliminary tests in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district.
The first case of coronavirus in the northern Indian state in the Himalayas was confirmed on Friday after a 32-year old man and a 63-year old woman have tested positive in the preliminary tests conducted at Tanda Medical College near here.
Briefing the media after the first cases of Covid-19 in the hill state, the Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jai Ram Thakur said the two cases reported on Friday were from “Dharamshala” and that the blood samples of both the patients, who have quarantined in Tanda Medical College, have been sent to Pune for further testing.
The duo, who are residents of Himachal have returned from Singapore and Dubai on 18th and 19 March respectively.
While the final confirmation of the patients is awaited from the National Institute of Virology, Pune, in the meantime, their families have been home quarantined.
In the wake of “growing threat of coronavirus”, section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CRPC) has been imposed in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district for a month from 15th March till 15th April.
Earlier on Thursday, the Chief Minister announced the ban on the entry of all tourists, both domestic and international in the state as a precautionary measure.
According to worldometers.com, there are 275,557 COVID-19 cases across the world which have resulted in 11,380 deaths while 90,983 of those infected have recovered.
The number of COVID-19 positive case in India has climbed to 249 as of Friday. further, it has been confirmed that 5 people have died of the infection in the country.
