CTA holds Prayer Service in memory of peaceful demonstrators of ‘1989 Uprising in Tibet’
DHARAMSALA, 9 March: The Central Tibetan Administration(CTA) held a prayer service on Sunday to recall and pay tribute to the peaceful Tibetan demonstrators of 1989 Uprising in Tibet.
Besides CTA’s President Dr Lobsang Sangay, members of Kashag, Tibetan Parliamentarians, Justice Commissioners, officials of the Central Tibetan Administration and monks from Nechung monastery, the prayer service was also attended by Hon. Frantisek Kopriva, the vice-chairperson of Committee for European affairs of the Chamber of Deputiesa and a founding member and co-chairperson of Czech Parliamentary Group for Tibet, Dana Balcarova, the chairwoman of the committee of the environment of the chamber of deputies and founding member of the Czech Parliamentary Group for Tibet.
“From 8-10 March, in 1989, Tibetans around Lhasa led peaceful protests that ended up in the imprisonment and deaths of thousands of these protestors by Chinese authorities. Since the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1949, around a million Tibetans have been killed as a result and continue to do so under the oppressive rule. We pray that they are reborn in the snow-land of Tibet as Tibetans in their next lives,” Tibet.net, the official webpage of the CTA quoted President Sangay as saying a following the prayer service.
The political head of the Tibetan people has also expressed his concern for Tibetans inside Tibet who are dealing with the coronavirus crisis, a global pandemic that originated from Wuhan, China.
He concluded offering his gratitude and appreciation for the guests from the Czech Republic by reserving special praise for them and commending the Czech Republic for always being the “no. 1 supporter of Tibet”.
Organised by its Department of Religion, the Tibetan administration holds the prayer service on 8 March annually to recall and pay tribute to Tibetans who have risked their life and limb for the cause of Tibet during the peaceful demonstrations of 8 March 1989.
The prayer service usually held at Tsuglag-Khang, the main temple in Mcleod Ganj, Dharamsala was held this year at the T-building, the auditorium of the CTA at its headquarters here.
