Dharamshala-McLeodganj skyway shuts down for a week for maintenance
DHARAMSALA, 26 Jan: The Dharamsala skyway, recently opened to solve the traffic problem of Mcleod Ganj and to establish it as a tourist attraction has been shut for a week for maintenance.
The 1.8km long Dharamshala Skyway which was inaugurated by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur earlier this month on 19 Jan has been shut down for a week, from 25 January to 1 February for maintenance, reports The Tribune.
The report, citing its sources stated that the “operations had been stopped as very few people were using the ropeway, making its working unviable,” and that “there were very few tourists in Dharamsala region these days.
The officials from Skyway has said on the condition of anonymity that “they had shut down the service for maintenance as the company did not want to stop operations when tourists started coming to the area.”
Meanwhile, the fare of the Dharamshala-McLeodganj skyway could have played as a deterrent factor as locals we spoke with deemed the cost of Rs 300 for a one-way ride and Rs 500 a bit on the high side.
However, a spokesperson skyway has stated in the report that experts from an Italian company, which had installed the ropeway project, would be undertaking the maintenance work for about a week and that the operations would resume as soon as the maintenance work is over.
