The monk, identified as Lobsang Tsultrim staged a solo protest in Ngaba on Oct 17 around noon. He was heard shouting anti-China slogans and calling for the long life of the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama as he walked along the street in Ngaba. Chinese authorities swiftly nabbed him, media reports said.

Following his protest on the street, known locally as ‘pawo street’ (Eng: martyr street), the Tibetan monk was brutally beaten in the detention center where he was held overnight.

Tsultrim was rushed to Ngaba hospital a day after his detention and is said to be in critical condition now.

Chinese authorities visited Kirti monastery and increased its force presence around the monastery after the incident.
