DHARAMSALA, 2 Dec: Dharamshala International Film Festival (DIFF) and Drung Tibetan Filmmakers Collective have collectively announced a new initiative, Tibet Films – an online streaming platform to showcase films made by Tibetan filmmakers in the diaspora.

Tibet Films has acknowledged that “in recent years, filmmaking in the Tibetan diaspora has gained momentum and taken great strides in finding its own cinematic voice and language.”

“Films coming out of the exile Tibetan community are diverse and wide-ranging, and cover the entire gamut of fiction, documentary, shorts and animation,” read a declaration on www.tibetfilms.com

It further said that while many such films have found “recognition on the international stage, sadly, access to these films, particularly for Tibetan audiences, is limited and most remain unseen by the community,” and that the initiative came-about to try and fill this gap.

DIFF and Drung Tibetan Filmmakers Collective  have further maintained that Tibet Films “aims specifically to benefit the filmmakers by enabling them to stream their films on a secure platform and share in the revenue earned.”

Tibet Films’ limited-period online streaming platform boasts 32 Tibetan films made by Tibetans in diaspora  on a pay-per-view basis over 3-13  December December 2020.

While DIFF has been prompting contemporary art, cinema and independent media practices in the Himalayan areas of India since 2012, Drung Tibetan Filmmakers Collective is founded by a collective of Tibetan filmmakers based in Dharamshala fostering a community that shares knowledge, skills and connections to tell stories about Tibet, India and beyond.

We are super excited to present to you Tibet Films – a limited run streaming platform to showcase films made by Tibetan filmmakers in the diaspora. Presented by  Dharamshala International Film Festival in collaboration with Drung Films (Drung Tibetan Filmmakers Collective).

Stream wherever you are and show your support for Tibetan filmmaking. Please share widely and visit: www.tibetfilms.com
