Trump Administration “not finished yet” with ‘Marxist-Leninist monster’ China: Pompeo
DHARAMSALA, 11 Nov: The US Secretary of State has called the Chinese Communist Party a “Marxist-Leninist monster” and added that the US is “not finished yet” when it comes to getting tough on China.
Secretary of State Michael Pompeo made the remarks while speaking at the Ronald Reagan Institute about the Trump administration’s China policies on Tuesday.
Declaring that the US is “not finished yet” when it comes to getting tough on China, Pompeo called the CCP a “Marxist-Leninist monster” whose rule is “authoritarian, brutish and antithetical to human freedom,” the Bloomberg reported.
Further, he quoted former President Ronald Reagan’s remarks on the Soviet Union and predicted that CCP will meet a similar fate.
“In the end, the people of China, just like the people of the Soviet Union, will ultimately be determinative of the course of the history of that country.”
Pompeo’s remarks, the report said was his strongest rhetoric to date to describe the Chinese government.
Though the Trump administration has just over two months left in the office, the US Secretary of State’s remarks came a day after he announced sanctions against four PRC and Hong Kong officials for allegedly threatening and undermining the peace, security and autonomy of Hong Kong.
Pompeo, who headed the CIA between January 2017 until April 2018 has said that his approach to China had been determined in part by the tenure as he said, “As CIA director, I got the chance to see first hand what these characters were up to.”
Pompeo’s strong remarks and critics on the CCP has made him Beijing’s favourite target, prompting the Chinese foreign ministry to declare him “ignorant,” while the commentaries on Chinese state-run media have declared him “evil” and a “common enemy of mankind.”
