Another Tibetan monk detained for lone protest in Ngaba
DHARAMSALA, Sep 10: A Tibetan monk from Kirti monastery in Ngaba county in the traditional Tibetan province of Amdo was detained by Chinese police yesterday following his solitary protest against Chinese rule in Tibet.
Holding a huge portrait of Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Jampel Gyatso, 21, marched on the streets of Ngaba around 12 pm on Sep 9 raising slogans calling for freedom for Tibetans. Within minutes into his protest, Chinese arrested him and took him away.
It is not in which detention centre he is being held at.
He hails from nomadic camp No. 3 in Meruma township in Ngaba and is the youngest of three children born to Surya (father) and Tare Kyi (mother).
Jampel Gyatso’s solitary protest follows a similar protest by fellow monk Lobsang Kelsang, 19 who was arrested by Chinese police after he staged his lone protest around 3 pm on Sep 7 on the streets of Ngaba town.
