DHARAMSALA, May 07: A 50-yr-old Tibetan woman has self immolated and died in a protest against Chinese rule in Zoege region in eastern Tibet.

Sonam Tso, a Tibetan mother of five has reportedly set herself ablaze and shouted slogans calling for immediate return of His Holiness to Tibet and freedom in Tibet on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 while circumambulating Aki Sera monastery in restive Ngaba county’s Zoege area, Washington-based Radio Free Asia reported on its website.

Her husband along with a monk from the monastery tried to douse the fire and took her inside the monastery but she passed away later before she could be taken to hospital.

The Chinese authorities got hold of the information and rounded up Tso’s husband and the monk couple of times and erased all the data in their mobile phone in an attempt to prevent the news from spreading.

Zoege region is under intense security watch and although the self-immolation happened in March the news failed to be reported on time as the incident was not seen by many people.
