Under-10 football tournament held in Mcleod Ganj to mark World Peace Day

DHARAMSALA, Sep 23: A five-a-side under-ten football tournament between four Tibetan Schools was held for two days beginning Sep 20 at TCV Day School in Mcleaod Ganj to commemorate World Peace Day.

The tournament, first of its kind to be held in Mcleod Ganj, was organized by Tibetan Parents Association, Mcleod Ganj and “Tseythang Gangla”, a group of Tibetan volunteers that has been conducting an after-school sports program at TCV Day School for the past three years.

The tournament saw boys and girls teams of Upper TCV School, TCV Gopalpur, Petoen Model School and TCV Day School competing against each other for two exciting days.

Addressing the crowd as the Chief Guest, Dharamsala Settlement Officer, Mr Sonam Dorjee said sports should also be taught in school along with academic studies as it contributes towards student’s physical health.

After two days of action-packed football matches played between the four schools, TCV Gopalpur won both the boys and girls under-ten football cup and both the boys and girls under-ten runners-up trophy went to TCV Day School, Mcleod Ganj.DSC_4311

Best player from boys category went to Shiwa of Petoen Model School and best player from girls category went to Yeshi Tsogyal of TCV Gopalpur.

The winning teams from both the categories were also awarded a cash prize of Rs 4000/- each and the runners up teams were awarded a cash prize of Rs 2000/- each. The cash prizes were sponsored by Pia Amman from Switzerland and the trophies were sponsored by Tibetan National Sports Association.DSC_1440
