About Us

Tibet Express — known in Tibetan as Bod-Kyi-Bangchen — is a flagship initiative of the Khawa Karpo Tibet Culture Centre (KKTCC). It was founded on 18 April 2003 by Mr. Serta Tsultrim, a five-time member of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, who continues to serve as its Editor-in-Chief. Over the past two decades, Tibet Express has grown into one of the most trusted media and cultural institutions serving the Tibetan community and readers worldwide.

From 2003 to 2025, Tibet Express published a weekly Tibetan-language newspaper alongside a bilingual news website in Tibetan and English. In 2023, the organization expanded into electronic media, launching at least three weekly audio-visual programs and a range of podcasts, including readings of its weekly editorial and Tibetan children’s stories. Beyond journalism, KKTCC has also published 17 books to date, including works on Tibetan Buddhism and culture.

Across all of these platforms, our mission has remained constant: to defend the human rights of Tibetans inside Tibet; preserve and promote the Tibetan language, culture, and religion; strengthen Tibetan democracy; uphold the principles of independent journalism; encourage civic engagement; raise international awareness of the Tibet issue; and provide a platform for Tibetan youth to voice their perspectives. Since 2003, the organization has been home to 48 employees across various roles.

Today, Tibet Express remains the only Tibetan media group in exile that combines weekly editorial commentary with a bilingual news website and original video journalism and podcasts. For more than two decades, it has served as a vital bridge between Tibetan communities and the wider international audience. While resource constraints led to the suspension of our print newspaper as of 1 January 2026, our commitment to the Tibetan cause — and to truth, justice, and the preservation of our language and culture — remains unwavering.
