TYC marks 49th founding anniversary with grand finale of ‘Martyrs Memorial Basketball Tournament’

DHARAMSALA, 7 Oct: Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), the largest Tibetan non-governmental organization in exile, marked its 49th founding anniversary by hosting the grand finale of 18th ‘Martyrs Memorial Basketball Tournament’ at the basketball court located near the headquarters of Central Tibetan Administration (CTA).

The tournament comprising of matches in both men’s and women’s category was organized by the Dharamsala chapter of TYC to express solidarity with the Tibetan martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the Tibetan people and to promote the importance of good health among exiled Tibetans.
Hundreds of Tibetan sports enthusiasts thronged the basketball court to watch the event unfold at 3 pm in the afternoon.

This year, ten men’s team took part in the tournament which spanned for sixteen days while only two women’s team took part in the tournament, a significant drop from last year tournament that featured six.

Men-Tsee-Khang team beat their opponent Sarah to win both women’s and Men’s final.

The Speaker of the Tibetan parliament-in-exile, Pema Jungney who attended the grand finale as the Chief Guest and the President of the TYC Gonpo Dhondup both gave a brief address and handed over the prizes.
