Maiden Mongolia-Tibet Cultural and Religious Symposium held in Dharamsala
DHARAMSALA, 6 Nov: Like Tibetans, the people of Southern Mongolia are also subjected to severe repressions by the Chinese communist regime, says the Political head of the Tibetan people.
“Tibetans and Southern Mongolian people are both subjected to similar gross and systematic violation of fundamental human rights and freedom by the PRC be it the political repression, cultural assimilation, economic marginalisation and environmental destructions,” the President of the Central Tibetan Administration(CTA) Dr Lobsang Sangay said while expressing support and solidarity with the Southern Mongolia at the first-ever Mongolia-Tibet Cultural and Religious Symposium held today at the Central Tibetan Secretariat here in Gangchen Kyishong.
Another similarity between the two occupied nation President Sangay noted was China’s economic interest in both Tibet and Southern Mongolia; the two resource-rich regions.
President Sangay further made a case for global attention and support owing to the gravity of the issues in Southern Mongolia while adding that the two nations can draw inspiration from each other’s struggles and emulate them.
He concluded by highlighting the spiritual relationship between Mongolia and Tibet that dates back to centuries and called for an alliance between Southern Mongolia and Tibetan people in pursuit of freedom and basic rights from the Chinese regime.
The itinerary of the daylong symposium includes three Panel discussions.
Panel one on Buddhism in Tibet and Mongolia will be chaired by Ven. Telo Tulku Rinpoche, Honorary Representative, Office of Tibet, Moscow.
The second on Mongol-Tibet Relations; Past, Present, and Future to be chaired by Tsewang Gyalpo Arya, Director, Tibet Policy Institute and the third panel on Human Rights and Ecology to be chaired by Tsering Tsomo, Director, Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy.
The maiden Mongolia-Tibet Cultural and Religious Symposium is being organised by Tibet Policy Institute, the CTA’s research centre. The one-day symposium is also being attended by the Mongolian representatives who have come to Dharamsala to attend the just concluded 8th International Tibet Support Groups Conference.
