Kashag’s lawyer disbarred by TSJC

DHARAMSALA, 9 Dec: The Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission(TSJC) has disbarred Kashag’s lawyer Lobsang Dakpa for criticising its ruling in the case no 20 and subsequently failing to appear twice for a contempt hearing.

The action against Lobsang Dakpa was taken after he missed the contempt hearing of the court twice to explain the remarks he made after the court ruled against Kashag(Cabinet), his client in the defamation case filed against by Penpa Tsering, the dismissed Representative of the Office of Tibet in Washington, CTA’s mission in North America.

The premier court today announced the seven-page severe disciplinary measures against Lobsang Dakpa that not just disbarred him but also declared him a contemner for making a mockery of the court and calling its judgement unfair.

Additionally, he was also ordered to offer kathak (Traditional Tibetan ceremonial scarf) to the throne of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at Tsuglakhag temple and offer 100 butter lamps within 15 days.

It is understood that the TSJC issued the contempt hearing notice to Dakpa after the plaintiff of the case no 20 Penpa Tsering instituted the contempt of court charges against him.

The TSJC issued the first contempt hearing notice to Dakpa on 6 Dec and the second one on 9 Dec. He missed both the hearings.

Dakpa, when contacted said that at the moment he will not comment over the matter.
