Trump threatens to cut US funds to ‘China-centric’ WHO

DHARAMSALA, 8 April: The US President Donald Trump has stated that the World Health Organization(WHO) is biased toward China and threatened to stop funding it.

President Trump was quoted as saying in media reports that he was “going to put a very powerful hold” on funding to the WHO as he pointed out that it is “very biased towards China.”

The US President further made his opinion on the matter clear by tweeting that “The WHO really blew it. For some reason, funded largely by the United States, yet very China-centric. We will be giving that a good look.”

The US is the biggest financial contributor to the WHO. Last year, the US reportedly contributed about $550 million – close to a tenth of the body’s total funding.

The Telegraph reported that other Republicans including U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz have echoed Mr Trump’s comments on WHO.

“The WHO has been far too willing to parrot Chinese propaganda,” the report quoted the Sen. as saying in a tweet.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the US has 429,052 positive cases and 14,695 deaths due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The country reported its first positive case 76 days ago on 23 Jan.
