CTA calls for caution during festive season, discourages social gathering
DHARAMSALA, 24 Dec: Thirteen Tibetans from exile communities in India and Nepal tested positive for Covid-19 this week, the Covid- 19 Task Force of the Central Tibetan Administration said.
From the reported cases, 7 are from India; 1 each are from Shimla and Dharamshala, 3 from Bylakuppe, 2 from Ladakh and 6 cases from Nepal; 3 from Tashi Palkyil Tibetan Settlement in Pokhara and three from Tibetan settlements in Kathmandu, Dr Tsering Tsamchoe said during the committee’s weekly briefing.
Dr Tsamchoe further said that a 74-year-old from Ladakh and a 55-year-old from Shimla with comorbidities passed away due to the COVID-19 in the past week and called on Tibetans to be mindful of the night curfews in place across many states in India.
The committee further informed that 384 Tibetans from 21 Tibetan settlements across India and 3 settlements in Nepal were under quarantine. Of the lot, 113 were under home quarantine while 251 are at institutional quarantine.
The tally now stands at 1434 cases positive cases till date, 112 active cases, 1285 recoveries and 37 deaths.
Dr Tenzin Tsundue briefed the public over the severity of the mutant new coronavirus strain reported from the UK and said it poses an increased risk of infection even among the young people and advised Tibetans to exercise caution and avoid social gathering during the festive season.
