RSS chief calls on Dalai Lama

DHARAMSALA, 20 Dec: The Chief of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS) has met with the Tibetan Spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama at the latter’s residence here in Dharamsala today.

The RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat who was on a five-day visit to Kangrc since Thursday was flanked by Indresh Kumar, a senior functionary of the group during the meeting.

Following the Tibetan spiritual leader’s meeting with the leaders from RSS, speaking to the press, senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar said they had a lengthy discussion on world peace and that the Dalai Lama declared India as the best model of religious harmony in the world and that we should make it known to the world.

The leaders from RSS, – a group largely regarded as the parent body of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – have assured India’s continued support for Tibet and has also met with the President of the CTA, the Cabinet and the Speaker of the Tibetan parliament as well.

CTA President Penpa Tsering described the meeting as a courtesy call between the Dalai Lama and the RSS Chief and assumed that “they must have talked about the larger interest of humanity on major issues.”

“It is an opportunity for us to thank the government and the people of India for the continuous support they have rendered to us,” CTA President said.

Speaking on the meeting between the RSS Chief and the CTA leadership, he said that they talked on “the issue of the independent status of the Tibet before China’s occupation of Tibet,” for which he said he received “the RSS Chief’s assurance of complete support from the public.”
