Taste Tibet, recipes from Tibetan Plateau among National Geographic’s five best new cookbooks for spring

DHARAMSALA, 13 April: Tibetan-British couple’s cookbook features among the National Geographic’s five best new cookbooks for spring.

Taste Tibet: Family Recipes From The Himalayas written by Yeshi Jampa and Julie Kleeman is ranked 2nd out of the 5 best new cookbooks for spring released by National Geographic, a popular American monthly magazine published by the National Geographic Society.

“Named after the authors’ Oxfordshire food stall and restaurant, Taste Tibet reflects the nomadic food culture of the Himalayas, where Yeshi grew up. Expect comforting soups and stews, as well as the restaurant’s famous chicken curry, and learn the secret to perfecting hand-pulled noodles,” says the monthly magazine known for its photojournalism.

The latest batch of cookbooks released by one of the most widely read magazines of all time also features cuisines of Sub-Saharan Africa, India and Portugal.

Taste Tibet a collection of over 80 recipes from the Tibetan Plateau was published in March 2022. The couple maintains that “food and wellbeing is our passion, and we have made it our mission to get Tibet on the global culinary map.”

“Alongside the recipes, we bring you stories from Yeshi’s home in Tibet and reveal nomadic Himalayan food culture and practices that have much to teach us about conscious consumption in an increasingly environmentally-aware age,” the couple says on their webpage. 

Taste Tibet has in the past won numerous awards and accolades and it was ranked as the number one restaurant in Oxford by the Time Out.

Additionally, in 2021 Taste Tibet was a finalist in the Best Street Food or Takeaway category of the BBC Food and Farming Awards. Our restaurant was profiled on BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen and Radio 4’s The Food Programme. We have featured in The Guardian, The Australian, Time Out, Olive Magazine, Delicious Magazine and the BBC Good Food Magazine, as well as Radio 4’s The Kitchen Cabinet and a host of podcasts.

The latest batch of cookbooks was published in Issue 15 (spring 2022) of Food by National Geographic Traveller (UK).
