Activist Chemi Lhamo says it’s “just the beginning” after finishing second in Parkdale-High Park’s councillor election

DHARAMSALA, 27 Oct: Tibetan-Canadian activist Chemi Lhamo haș said that it is “just the beginning” and thanked the community for the love and support she received after she came second in the election of the City Council of ward 4 Parkdale High Park, Canada.

“Despite the results: Filled with immense gratitude”, Chemi Lhamo has said after she lost the election to the incumbent Councillor Gord Perks.

The activist gave tough competition to the incumbent Councillor who edged past her with 1,230.

“Thank you for the love and support. This is the power of community. This is just the beginning”, she added.

Chemi Lhamo secured 31.6 per cent of votes against Perks 35.5 per cent.

Following the election, Arif Virani, a Canadian MP from Parkdale—High Park took to Twitter to applaud Chemi Lhamo and Siri Agrell for the “strong councillor campaigns” they ran. 

Lhamo threw her hat into the ring for the election of the City Councillor for Ward 4 Parkdale-High Park, Canada on 6 July which marks the 87th birthday of the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
