Under-ten football tournament marks World Peace Day in Dharamsala

DHARAMSALA, Sep 21: A two-day football tournament was held over Sep 19-20 to commemorate World Peace Day at the TCV Day School in Mcleod Ganj, Dharamsala.

IMG_0639Students under the age of ten from three Tibetan schools, Upper TCV School, TCV School Gopalpur and TCV Day school, Mcleod Ganj participated in the tournament. Each school was represented by a boys and girls team comprising of five players and a total of eight matches were played over the two days to decide the winner of the tournament.

Upper TCV School and TCV School, Gopalpur won the cup in boys and girls category respectively and TCV Day School, Mcleod Ganj bagged the runners-up trophies in both the categories.

IMG_0875Sonam Paljor of Upper TCV School was declared the best player in boys category and the best player from girls category went to Tsering Phurbu of TCV School Gopalpur.

The winning teams were awarded a cash prize of Rs 4000/- each and the runners up teams were awarded a cash prize of Rs 2000/- each. The best players received a cash prize of Rs 500/- each. The cash awards were presented by Mr Sonam Dorjee, Chief Guest and Settlement officer Dharamsala.

IMG_0848The cash prizes were sponsored by Pia Amman from Switzerland and the trophies were sponsored by Tibetan National Sports Association. Mid-day meals for the participating teams were sponsored by Tibetan Parents Association, Mcleod Ganj and LHA Charitable Trust sponsored tea and snacks.

The tournament was organized by Tibetan Parents Association, Mcleod Ganj and “Tseythang Gangla”, a group of Tibetan volunteers that has been conducting an after-school sports program at TCV Day School for the past four years.

The first inter-school under-ten football tournament was held last year at the same venue from Sep 20-21.
