TYC marks 47th founding anniversary with grand finale of ‘Martyrs Memorial Basketball Tournament’

DHARAMSALA, Oct 7: Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), the largest Tibetan non-governmental organization in exile, marked its 47th founding anniversary today by hosting the grand finale of ‘Martyrs Memorial Basketball Tournament’ at the basketball court located near the headquarters of Central Tibetan Administration (CTA).

14619999_1278337415543999_1685235164_nThe tournament was organized by the Dharamsala chapter of TYC to express solidarity with the Tibetan martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for freedom of the Tibetan people and to promote the importance of good health among exiled Tibetans.

Hundreds of Tibetan sports enthusiasts thronged the basketball court to watch the event unfold at 1:30 pm in the afternoon.

A minute’s silence was observed to honor the Tibetan martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for Tibet before the grand finale kicked off, followed by a brief public address by the Chief Guest, Ngawang Yonten of Department of Home, CTA and Tenzin Jigmey, President of the TYC.

14627826_1278337355544005_304080124_nEx-Suja team beat their opponent Men-tse-khang to win the tournament in women’s category and Drokpa Team defended their title by beating Thuboe team in a closely fought match in men’s category.

Thuboe team’s Jampa and Yeshi Wangmo from EX-Suja team won men’s and women’s highest scorer’s awards respectively.
