The Dalai Lama condoles demise of Senator John McCain

DHARAMSALA, August 27: His Holiness the Dalai Lama has written to Mrs Cindy McCain to offer his condolences on the demise of her husband, US Senator John McCain.

“I offer my condolences to you and all the members of your family at this sad time,” the Dalai Lama wrote in the missive.

The Tibetan spiritual leader has said it was a pleasure to meet Senator John McCain in Aspen, Colorado, in 2008 and that he has long admired Senator John McCain for his years of dedicated service to the American people.

“I appreciated his genuine concern for democracy, human rights and the environment in general and particularly in Tibet, for which I remain grateful,” the Dalai Lama concluded.

US Senator John McCain passed away at the age of 81 on August 25, after battling with an aggressive form of brain cancer for over a year. Senator John McCain is a Vietnam war hero and one of the US’ most charismatic politicians. He ran unsuccessfully for US president in 2008.
