Sikyong Lobsang Sangay officially announces his desire to continue for second term
DHARAMSALA, Oct 6: The incumbent political head of the Tibetan people, Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay on Oct 5 officially announced his candidacy for the upcoming Sikyong 2016 elections.
Announcing his candidacy at a press conference held in Dharamsala, Sikyong Sangay said he would like to continue the work of the present Kashag based on the three principles of unity, innovation and self reliance if elected for a second term by the Tibetan people, and added that striving to make possible the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet, as per the wishes of the Tibetans inside Tibet, will still remain one of the top priorities of his administration.
Sikyong Sangay reiterated his commitment to “Middle Way Approach”, which has been the official policy and approach of the Tibetan administration in exile that seeks to solve the issue of Tibet by demanding “meaningful” autonomy rather than complete independence from China.
Terming future course of the Tibetan people “five and fifty”, the Harvard law graduate stated that while solving the Tibet issue through negotiation based on MWA with the Chinese government remains the most significant objective for the next five years, candidates standing up for the upcoming elections for Sikyong and member of Tibetan Parliament-in-exile must ensure continuity of Central Tibetan Administration by strengthening and further developing it, if we were to remain in exile for another fifty years.
Sikyong Sangay also explained administration’s future political and administrative approach if elected to the top political position for a second term, and took questions from the audience.
