Tibetan woman dies after self-immolation in eastern Tibet
DHARAMSALA, Aug 28: A Tibetan woman has died after setting herself on fire in Sangchu county in Kanlho Prefecture, Amdo province.
Tashi Kyi, a Tibetan woman aged around 55 years, from Ngulra village of Sangkhog township in Sangchu county set herself on fire last night in an apparent protest against China’s repressive rule in Tibet.
“Local Tibetans tried to extinguish the fire and save her but she succumbed to her burn injuries at around 3 am this morning,” Tibet Times cited a source as saying on its website tibet.net.
“At dawn today, Chinese security forces arrived and forcibly took away her body,” tibet.net further quoted the source as saying but did not provide any further details.
Tashi Kyi became the 7th Tibetan to have self-immolated this year and the 142nd known Tibetan from inside Tibet to have self-immolated in protest against Chinese rule since February 2009.
