Gyari Dolma announces her candidacy for 2021 Sikyong election

Gyari Dolma, the first candidate for the upcoming 2021 Sikyong(President) election of the CTA. 

DHARAMSALA,  Gyari Dolma, former Kalon (Minister) of the Central Tibetan Administration(CTA) has thrown her hat into the ring for 2021 Sikyong election.

Gyari Dolma has become the first to announce her candidacy for the upcoming Sikyong(President) election of the Tibetan-government-in-exile, officially known as CTA after she declared her candidacy while speaking at Delhi University’s Kirorimal College.

“I am an aspirant for the election in 2021, I am not a candidate but I am an aspirant and with everybody’s blessing, I hope I do get the chance to serve my people and especially His Holiness the Dalai Lama closely once again, I hope so,” Gyari Dolma has said while speaking at the college’s academic and cultural Youth Conclave-‘YAJUNSHI’ 2020 on Friday.

Gyari Dolma previously ran for the office in 2010 and later served as the Home Minister of the CTA during Sikyong Sangay’s first term.

She also served as the member of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile for several terms during which she became the first female deputy speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile (TPIE).

‘YAJUNSHI’ 2020 is a two day academic and cultural Youth Conclave organised by Kirori Mal College Student’s Union over 16-17 Jan.

The two-day event included academic sessions and cultural programmes and Ms Gyari was invited to speak on Tibet before the college’s students. Her speech was titled ‘Tibet: A Forgotten Cause.

The institute has described the former Tibetan Minister as the most eminent speakers among its host of speakers and artists from different fields.

CTA President Dr Lobsang Sangay, the political head of the Tibetan people will complete his second term in office by the end of April 2021. The 2021 Tibetan general elections will see Tibetans in exile elect their new CTA President and members of the 17th TPIE.
