Ratika Sharma crowned Miss Himalaya 2018

DHARAMSALA, Oct 8: Ratika Sharma was crowned Miss Himalaya 2017 at the grand finale held at Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) in Dharamsala on Oct 6.

After four tightly contested rounds of competitions in Talk, Talent, Traditional Costume, and Interview, Ratika Sharma 22, a medical student working as a radiation therapist was crowned Miss Himalaya Pageant-2018 to a thunderous applause from the audience at a coronation ceremony held late on the evening of Oct. 6, at TIPA.

On top of the prized Miss Himalaya crown, Ratika Sharma also received a cash prize of one lakh rupees.

Palak Sharma, 22 from Chamba and Ashima Sharma from Jammu were declared first and second runners-up and received fifty thousand and twenty-five thousand rupees respectively as prize money.

The 6th edition of the Miss Himalaya Pageant had six contestants from Himachal Pradesh and a lone contestant from Jammu. The Contestants are; Anisha Palnail, Anshika Thakur, Ashima Sharma, Palak Sharma, Ritika Sharma, Shalika Rana, and Yashima Patel.

Started by Lobsang Wangyal, the inaugural Miss Himalaya Pageant was held in Dharamshala, Northern India on October 12-13, 2012.

According to the Pageant’s Director, the purpose of the annual event is “to bring women from the entire Himalayan region onto one platform to celebrate the beautiful cultures, people, and nature of the Himalayan region.”

In addition to the Miss Himalaya Pageant that is being held in the exile headquarter in India, Lobsang has further announced that a parallel event, Miss Himalaya Pageant International will be held next year in the New York City, US as well.
