CTA President thanks Speaker Pelosi for constant support as she announces to step down from House Democratic leadership
DHARAMSALA, 18 Nov: The political head of the Tibetan people, Central Tibetan Administration’s (CTA) President Penpa Tsering has congratulated Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives and expressed his gratitude to her for being a constant supporter and a friend of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Tibet following her decision to step down from the office.
“Your presence at the helm of the House has been a great source of hope, inspiration and, above all, assurance. The Tibetans are forever grateful for your friendship with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and for your unparalleled leadership and support in strengthening bipartisan support for Tibet in the US Congress and advancing the cause of Tibet as per the hopes and aspirations of Tibetans inside Tibet,” President Penpa Tsering has said in a missive addressed to Speaker Pelosi.
Pelosi, 82 announced that she would step down as the democratic leader in the chamber on Thursday a day after the Republicans won the majority in the midterm elections.
“We are comforted by the fact that we will continue to witness your fearless leadership and service as an honourable member of Congress in the coming year. I look forward to your guidance and advice on our future course,” the CTA President has said as Speaker Pelosi would stay with Congress and continue representing San Francisco as she has done in the past.
Nancy Pelosi is the first and the only female US Speaker of the House to date.
She previously held the position from 2007 to 2011 before she became the first politician in 58 years to take back the gavel in the US after she was elected the Speaker of the US House of Representatives in Jan 2019. She was then reelected as the 53rd Speaker of the US House of Representatives in Jan. 2021.
