Dalai Lama applauds former Sikyong, Kashag for commendable work

DHARAMSALA, 28 May: His Holiness the Dalai Lama has today granted a virtual audience to the former President(Sikyong) and his Cabinet’s(Kashag) after they ended their tenure.

The Dalai Lama has commended the outgoing Sikyong and Kalons of the 5th Kashag of the Central Tibetan Administration(CTA) for their “commendable work and called for their continued service to the Tibetan cause” today during a 30 virtual audience, reports Tibet.net, the official webpage of the CTA.

Additionally, the Tibetan spiritual leader has also reassured to live over 110 years of age with the hope and aspiration to serve the interest of the Tibetan people and humanity at large. 

“If I live long, it will benefit the Tibetans inside and outside of Tibet.”

The former Sikyong and his cabinets: Kalon Ven Karma Gelek Yuthok, Kalon Sonam Topgyal Khorlatsang, Kalon Karma Yeshi, Kalon Dr Pema Yangchen, Kalon Phagpa Tsering Labrang, Kalon Choekyong Wangchuk were each presented a statue of Buddha each but the Dalai Lama.

The Central Tibetan Administration is now headed by President(Sikyong) Penpa Tsering. The former Speaker took charge as the political head of the Tibetan people on Thursday, having surpassed  Kelsang Dorjee Aukatsang, his opponent in the presidential election with 5,417 votes.

Lobsang Sangay served the office of Sikyong for 10 years during his two terms in office from 2011-2021.
