Double earthquake hits Barkham in Tibet
DHARAMSALA, 10 June: An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck Barkham city in Ngaba in the traditional Tibetan province of Amdo today in the early morning hours.
The 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit Barkham city at 1:28 a.m. Friday (Beijing Time). The epicentre was measured at 32.25 degrees north latitude and 101.82 degrees east longitude. The quake struck at a depth of 13 km, the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) reported.
Additionally, two hours ahead of the 6.0-magnitude earthquake that hit the area, another, 5.8-magnitude earthquake hit the region earlier today at 00:03 am.
The earthquake, according to the Chinese state-run Chinese Global Television Network (CGTN) injured one person and 1,314 rescuers from five teams were dispatched to the disaster area.
The report also added that 25,790 people have been transferred and resettled.
The high seismicity in the Himalayan region, considered to be an earthquake-prone area, results mostly from the continental collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates.
