DHARAMSALA, August 4: Heavy rain has caused a dam to burst in Lhatse county of Shigatse prefecture in the traditional Tibetan province of U-tsang on Tuesday.
The dam collapsed as water level rose in Tibet’s longest river, Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) due to heavy rain.
The dam was breached on Tuesday and it flooded 3 villages, with more than 100 hectares of crops and forest besieged, reports China’s state-run Xinhua, August 3.
No casualties have been reported so far and Chinese soldiers were deployed to repair the dam.
