Maiden dialogue between the Dalai Lama and Chinese scientists begins in Dharamsala

DHARAMSALA, Nov 1: The maiden dialogue between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and eminent Chinese scientists on ‘Quantum Effect’ began today at the Tsug-lag-Khang, the main temple in Mcleod Ganj, Dharamsala.
The Tibetan spiritual leader greeted congregation and opened the dialogue by stating that the very purpose of this kind of meeting is to simply expand our knowledge particularly in the field of scientific research by shifting the focus from external things to our mind and internal things.
Putting weight on the scientific finding that constant anger is eating our immune system, the Dalai Lama stressed that emotional hygiene should be included in our education system along with physical hygiene.
“We have come here with an open mind as we have much to learn from you on the quantum mechanics to humanity and religion,” Prof. Yuan Tseh Lee Prof. Yuan Tseh Lee, a Taiwanese chemist and the first Taiwanese Nobel Prize laureate said in his opening remarks. He further likened the science as a language to communicate with the nature of which we are part of.
Other speakers at the dialogue include Dr Shih Chang Lee, Dr Chii Dong Chen, Dr Yueh-Nan Chen Dr Shawn Y. Lin Dr Ting-Kuo Lee Prof. Maw-Kuen Wu Prof. Chung-Yuan Mou. The dialogue between the Dalai Lama and eminent Chinese scientists is being attended by Buddhist scholars and philosophers from numerous disciplines and Tibetan students from various schools in the Dharamsala jurisdiction.
Though the Dalai Lama has been warned by some in the initial stages that the science will destroy the religion, his belief in both the science and Buddhism which is based on logic and reasoning prevailed and that the regular interdisciplinary dialogue between leading modern scientists and contemplatives were being held for over three decades now.
The first dialogue between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and eminent Chinese scientists from Nov 1- 3, is being organized by the Dalai Lama Trust with a hope that it will be a mutually enriching experience. His Holiness will attend every morning session.
