Taiwan seeks to deepen ties with US regardless of who wins election: Tsai Ing-wen
DHARAMSALA, 5 Nov: Taiwan has declared that the island will continue to deepen its cooperation with the US no matter who wins the US election.
“As the ruling party, no matter which party is in power in the United States, we have the responsibility to deepen our cooperation with the US government,” Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen said, reports the Liberty Times.
The President, who is also the chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party(DPP) has made the remarks on Wednesday at her party’s weekly leadership meeting while speaking on Taiwan-US relations.
Tsai and her administration, having accused of favouring the incumbent US president has cleared the air by declaring that “her government maintains a neutral stance and that Taiwan-US relations will not change no matter who wins the US election.”
“At this stage, mainstream American public opinion is very supportive of Taiwan. We will continue to deepen this trend of support,” she added.
At the time of this report, live results of the 2020 US Presidential election has put former vice-president Joe Biden within touching distance of taking the presidency.
The Democrats Presidential nominee has collected 264 electoral votes with President Donald Trump trailing him with just 214 electoral votes.
