Tashi Dhondup elected new President of NDPT 

The 8th and the 9th Executive Body of the National Democratic Party of Tibet. 

DHARAMSALA, 23 Aug: Tashi Dhondup was elected as the new President of the National Democratic Party of Tibet (NDPT), the lone Tibetan political party in exile on the third and final day of its 9th General Body Meeting.

A total of 7 members were elected to the 9th Executive Body of the organization with Tashi Dhondup as the President.

In his interactions with the media, Tashi Dhondup identified the absence of a balance of rights and duties within the Tibetan community as the root cause of all the problems of the exiled Tibetan Democracy.

A youth himself, the newly elected President of the NDPT spoke about the importance of the youth in democracy and pledged to engage with the youths to encourage them to step up and take responsibility.

Tsetan Norbu, the organization’s outgoing President expressed satisfaction over his service to the NDPT over the last six years. He led the organisation from 2016 –2021. 

The meeting held once every four years took place from 20 – 22 Aug here in the exiled headquarter of the Tibetan people. A total of 52 members from over 24 chapters attended the meeting.

Founded on 2 September 1994, NDPT is the lone Tibetan political party in exile. The organisation has 38 chapters and around 5,000 members.
