Tibetan Parliament Delegates Attend 2023 Open Government Partnership Summit in Estonia

DHARAMSALA, 7 Sept: A delegation comprising four members of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile (TPiE) is currently participating in the 2023 Open Government Partnership (OGP) Summit, in Estonia which is being hosted by the Estonian government in the capital city of Tallinn from the 5th to the 7th of September.
Four Tibetan parliamentarians Geshe Monlam Tharchin, Lhayari Namgyal Dolkar, Tsanneytsang Dhondup Tashi, and Phurpa Dorjee Gyaldong participated in a morning meeting organized by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and later attended the GOP Summit in the afternoon, reports the tibet.net
According to the report, the Summit featured the participation of heads of state and government, civil society representatives, and policymakers from around the world. Discussions during the meeting primarily revolved around topics related to the open parliament e-network.
Delegates from Taiwan and Morocco presented on “Accountability in Parliamentarians” and “Parliament in Anti-corruption Policy-making,” respectively, the report added.
Tibetan MP Lhayari Namgyal Dolker spoke about China’s ‘forced-assimilation’ policy in Tibet, highlighting the forced placement of over a million Tibetan children in state-run boarding schools as part of the CCP’s efforts to sinicize Tibetan identity. She also discussed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s consolidation of power through malicious attacks on those opposing him, including members of his own party.
The summit hosted more than 2,000 participants from various countries, providing Tibetan MPs with a valuable opportunity to engage with delegates from other nations and brief them on the critical situation in Tibet and the functioning of the Central Tibetan Administration, as stated in the report.
After the OGP summit concludes, the Tibetan delegates have a meeting scheduled with the members of the Estonian Parliamentary Tibet Group on 8th September.
