Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile thanks US, US Congress for passing Tibetan Policy and Support Act 2020

DHARAMSALA, 23 Dec: “Ecstatic and grateful”, the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile has thanked the US and its lawmakers “for the bold commitment on the unanimous passage” of the Tibetan Policy and Support Act (TPSA) by the US Congress.

“On behalf of the Tibetans living in and outside of Tibet, the 16th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, I would like to extend my heartiest and sincerest gratitude to you and the US government for this bold commitment on the unanimous passage of this significant bill,” Speaker Pema Jungney has said in a missive he addressed to the US Vice-President Mike Pence, who is also the President of the US Senate.

The Speaker further declared that the passage of TPSA “a historic and a momentous achievement to the Tibetans all over the world” and that it sends a very clear message to China that “the US Congress stand with the truth, justice, and humanity.”

“It proves that the United States of America will continue its staunch and steadfast support to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibet’s cause,” it read.

He further said that the “Tibetans are deeply indebted to the government and people of the United States of America for their unwavering support and kindness extended until no,” and everyone who has worked and contributed towards the passage of this bill.

“This bill instilled a deep hope for all the Tibetans around the world and especially for those Tibetans who are continuously suffering under the repressive Chinese policies,” he said in the letter and urged other countries to follow suit and adopt such kind of legislation.

He concluded by expressing his hope “for the smooth passage of this bill to the US President to sign into a law.”

The President of the CTA Dr Lobsang Sangay who has travelled to Washington D.C. since November to push for the bill described the bill as “a momentous landmark for the Tibetan people,” as the US congress passed the bill yesterday.
