Unidentified Tibetan youth arrested for lone protest against Chinese government in eastern Tibet
DHARAMSALA, Aug 18: An unidentified Tibetan youth was arrested by Chinese police in the morning today in eastern Tibet for staging a lone protest calling for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and freedom for Tibetans.
The Tibetan youth carried out his protest around 9:40 am near a Chinese police control room located at a place called Trung Trung Karmo ( Eng: White Crane) in Lithang county in eastern Tibet’s Kham province.
Carrying a huge thanka painting of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, during his brief protest, the youth shouted, “Tibetans need freedom” and “His Holiness the Dalai Lama should be invited to Tibet”.
“Within minutes into the protest, Chinese police arrested him and took him away in a black car,” an exiled Tibetan monk living in south India cited a local Tibetan eyewitness as saying.
Due to restrictions placed in the area the Tibetan youth’s name and other details could not be ascertained.
Few days earlier, Woekar Kyi, a Tibetan nomad mother was arrested on Aug 15 for staging a similar protest against Chinese government in Meruma township in Ngaba county in eastern Tibet’s Amdo province.
Her whereabouts and condition remain unknown.
