DHARAMSALA, 11 Dec: The Dalai Lama Foundation in Taiwan has opened an exhibition featuring 166 calligraphic artworks by Ho Tsung-hsun, honouring each of the 166 Tibetans who have self-immolated in defiance of Chinese rule in Tibet, as reported by Radio Free Asia on Sunday.

DHARAMSALA, 5 Dec: To preserve the ecological balance of the Triund trek in the Dhauladhar range, Forest Department officials have established a checkpost at Gallu to collect fees from trekkers, as reported by The Tribune. The regulations, effective immediately, encompass a cap on the number of trekkers allowed per day, the imposition of a trekking fee, and restrictions on overnight stays.

DHARAMSALA, 4 Dec: In a significant development for the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, the two main claimants to the title of the 17th Karmapa, the head of Tibetan Buddhism’s Kagyu lineage, Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje, and Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje, have issued a joint statement outlining their shared responsibility for the recognition and education of the reincarnation of Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche.

DHARAMSALA, 1 Dec: The 4th Tibet Environment Conference, focusing on the theme “Tibet: The Water Tower of Asia (Towards a Global Common Good),” convened in Bangkok, Thailand, from 27-28 November. The two-day event was jointly organised by the Tibet Policy Institute (TPI) and Chulalongkorn University, as reported by TPI.

DHARAMSALA, 30 Nov: The Resolve Tibet Act, a bill addressing the Tibet-China dispute, received unanimous bipartisan support from the House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC) during a markup hearing on 29 November. It is now poised to proceed to the House floor, reinforcing US efforts to compel China into negotiations with the Dalai Lama’s envoys to resolve the longstanding Tibet-China dispute.

DHARAMSALA, 28 Nov: His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the spiritual head of Tibet is confirmed to visit Gangtok, Sikkim, on 11 December 2023, according to the circular issued by the Government of Sikkim’s Home Department and as per the Dalai Lama’s schedule announced on his official website.
