Buddhist monks save four people from plane crash minutes before it exploded

DHARAMSALA, August 10: Monks and Buddhist practitioners of Palyul Retreat Center has rescued four people from a plane crash seconds before it exploded and engulfed in smoke in McDonough, New York in the United States.

The small plane crashed on Monday afternoon behind the retreat center in rural Chenango County. Four people onboard survived the plane crash as the Buddhist monks put themselves in harms way, fought their way through the heavy smoke and dense forest and timely rescued them before the plane exploded, WBNG News Channel 12 reported, August 9.

The plane was traveling from Sidney in Delaware County to Greene in Chenango County. It flew low shortly before the crash and people on board the plane was taking pictures when it struck the top of trees, the report adds.

“The entire experience was “terrible” but I am happy everyone is okay,” Lama Jigmey, a 30-yr-old monk was quoted as saying in the report.

Jigmey and Tashi along with other monks and Buddhist practitioners from the retreat made it out of the woods safely after the rescue.

The monks and the Buddhist practitioners are hailed as heroes for successfully rescuing the four passengers, minutes before it exploded.

The crash site was sealed off as investigators believe there are dangerous chemicals and sharp metals scattered around the area. Further investigations are on to confirm the cause of the crash.

The Palyul Retreat Center is located in McDonough, New York in the United States. It was established in 1998 by Dzogchen Master, His Holiness the Penor Rinpoche to provide westerners with the opportunity to study and practice Buddhism.
