DHARAMSALA, 23 Feb: Tibetans in Dharamsala, the exile headquarters of the Tibetan people, rallied in solidarity with Tibetans in Derge County in the Traditional Tibetan province of Kham, who have been protesting peacefully against China’s construction of a dam along the Drichu River. The protest, coordinated by prominent Tibetan NGOs based here, aims to amplify the voices of Tibetans in Derge who face forced displacement from their ancestral land and other forms of repression from Chinese authorities.

DHARAMSALA, 15 Feb: The Human Rights Network for Tibet and Taiwan (HRNTT) organised the “Cycling for a Free Tibet” event in Taipei and Kaohsiung on Wednesday to draw attention to the Tibetan resistance movement against China’s rule and the human rights situation in Tibet ahead of the 65th Tibetan National Uprising day on 10th March.

DHARAMSALA, 7 Feb: Shedding light on the systematic repression faced by exiled Tibetan communities worldwide, the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) unveiled a groundbreaking report titled ‘Chinese Transnational Repression of Tibetan Diaspora Communities’. Released on Tuesday at the Press Club of India in the Indian capital, the report, ‘Chinese Transnational Repression of Tibetan Diaspora 2024’, exposes the insidious tactics employed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to silence dissent among Tibetan exiles.

DHARAMSALA, 31 Jan: The recent visit of Penpa Tsering, the Sikyong (President) of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), the Tibetan government in exile, to the Estonian Parliament drew rebuke from the Chinese Embassy. China’s statement, issued on 26 January on their website, expressed strong opposition to the Estonian Parliament for hosting a hearing on the ‘Legal Status of Tibet’ on 25 January, where Sikyong was one of the key speakers.

DHARAMSALA, 30 Jan: Former member of the Tibetan Parliament in exile, Jigmey Jugney, has been appointed the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Bureau office in New Delhi, as announced by the Kashag in a circular dated 25 January. As the key Tibetan official in the Indian capital, he will assume the responsibility of representing the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) as the nodal officer of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the CTA. The appointment is effective immediately.

DHARAMSALA, 29 Jan: The Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) has called on the Chinese government to substantiate its accusations by addressing “the outstanding requests made by UN special procedures to investigate the actual human rights conditions on the ground.”

DHARAMSALA, 20 December: The Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, formally launched the inaugural First International Sangha Forum (ISF) today at the International Convention Centre in Bodh Gaya. The three-day conference from  20-23 December is jointly organised by the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the International Buddhist Confederation and the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s South East Side Coordinator’s office, according to the Dalai Lama’s official website.

DHARAMSALA, 14 Dec: The Nepalese government, on December 10, deployed numerous police personnel to key locations, including Boudhanath Stupa and Swayambhunath Stupa, to deter Tibetans from hosting celebrations for the 34th anniversary of the conferment of the ‘Nobel Peace Prize’ to the Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, a day that also coincides with International Human Rights Day.
