DHARAMSALA, 13 Feb: A panel of leaders issued a joint statement today condemning China’s use of the colonial term “Xizang” for Tibet, calling on the international community to reject this nomenclature and take immediate action against attempts to erase Tibet’s distinct identity from global discourse on the 112th anniversary of the proclamation of Tibetan independence by the 13th Dalai Lama.

DHARAMSALA, 11 Feb: More than 2,50,000 people have signed a petition urging UN High Commissioner Volker Turk to break his silence on China’s colonial boarding schools in occupied Tibet, which aim to assimilate an entire generation of Tibetan children into the dominant Han culture, risking the permanent discontinuation of the generational transmission of distinct Tibetan language and culture.

DHARAMSALA, 10 Feb: Tibetans are mourning the demise of Kalon Trisur Gyalo Thondup, the older brother of the Dalai Lama and a key figure in Tibetan politics. He passed away at the age of 97 on 8 February at his home in Kalimpong, West Bengal.

DHARAMSALA, 31 Jan: US President Donald Trump’s global freeze on all US foreign aid for 90 days, one of the executive orders he signed on his first day back in office, and his harsh immigrant policies have caused serious concerns in the Tibetan community in exile and its governing body, the Central Tibetan Administration(CTA), given their major reliance on USAID, despite it being a very small portion of the total US foreign assistance.

DHARAMSALA, 27 Jan: Penpa Tsering, the President of the Central Tibetan Administration(CTA), commonly known as the Tibetan Government in Exile, participated in a day-long seminar on “Environment and Security” on Friday last week to address China’s rampant damming along the India-Tibet border. The seminar was held at the state Legislative Assembly hall in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh(AP), in the Presence of the Chief Minister, Pema Khandu.

DHARAMSALA  21, Jan: Activists from Tibet, Hong Kong and Uyghur have denounced  the presence of Chinese Vice President Han Zheng at the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the US on Monday, “calling on the US to stand firm in its commitment to human rights and ensure that its policy reflects its democratic value.”
