DHARAMSALA, 5 Sept: Ven Sonam Lama, Sikkim’s minister for ecclesiastical affairs, public health engineering (PHE), and water resources, has said he will officially meet the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, spiritual head of the Karma Kagyu lineage, once the spiritual leader’s location is confirmed, as part of the state’s renewed effort to facilitate his return to India since his departure in 2017.

DHARAMSALA, 2 Sept: The Central Tibetan Administration(CTA) today marked the 65th anniversary of its democratic system, commemorating the swearing-in of the first Commission of Tibetan People’s Deputies on 2 September 1960, a milestone that laid the foundation for the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and replaced centuries-old theocratic governance in Tibet.

Today marks a momentous occasion—the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Tibetan democracy. It is also a day to remember with deep reverence the boundless kindness of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the supreme leader of Tibet, for bestowing upon us the precious gift of a truly democratic system for the benefit of Tibet and the Tibetan people.
