DHARAMSALA, 28 Jan: The Election Commission(EC) of the Central Tibetan Administration, commonly referred to as the Tibetan government in exile, issued a warning letter to Dorjee, translator of the Nechung Oracle, for violating electoral rules and guidelines by making numerous political remarks in a clarification video with Tibet Radio regarding the oracle’s pronouncements on two Gelug spokespersons. The commission deemed the translator’s remarks as a risk to social unrest and the ongoing electoral process.

DHARAMSALA, 21 January: In an unprecedented ceremony marked by contradiction, the Gelug MPs of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile (TPiE) appeared for a mandated apology ceremony on Tuesday. While expressing remorse as instructed by the Nechung Oracle’s pronouncement, the MPs explicitly stated that they have never uttered ‘a single word’ of defamation against the Dalai Lama and never will, even at the cost of their lives.

DHARAMSALA, 12 Jan: As Drepung Lachi’s ultimatum to two Gelug MPs raises questions about potential violations of electoral conduct rules – including prohibitions against unfounded accusations and religious-based intimidation-  the Tibetan Election Commission backtracked on its commitment to media engagement, stating it will no longer comment until after preliminary polls are completed.

DHARAMSALA, 5 Jan: Smartvote Tibet, an online portal designed to help Tibetan voters identify their preferred Sikyong and Members of Parliament (MP) candidates for the 2026 Tibetan General Election, is now open to the public. The platform invites voters to respond to a series of questions and subsequently calculates a matching rate between voters and candidates based on the candidates’ responses to the same set of questions.

DHARAMSALA 23 Dec: ​​Tashi Topgyal, a Sikyong candidate in the 2026 Tibetan general election, has been disqualified by the Tibetan Election Commission (EC) from contesting the election and from exercising his voting rights for five years, effective today, after the EC declared he breached several provisions of the Tibetan Charter and electoral rules during his campaign.

DHARAMSALA, 23 Dec: A minor accident has temporarily sidelined Lodoe Palden, one of two veteran activists conducting a three-month motorcycle rally across India to raise awareness about Tibet’s struggle under Chinese occupation. In his absence, Kalimpong-based activist Tenzin Jamphel joined Palden’s partner Jamyang Tenzin to continue the bike rally.

DHARAMSALA, 19 Dec: A coalition of five Tibetan NGOs in exile condemned China’s illegal gold mining project in Kashi Nomadic Village, located in the Kham Zachuka area of occupied Tibet. The project has reportedly led to the arbitrary detention and torture of more than 80 Tibetans, indigenous to the land, for appealing to authorities to halt mining operations they believe are destructive to the environment and threaten their identity as Tibetan nomads who have lived on the land since time immemorial.
