Today marks a momentous occasion—the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Tibetan democracy. It is also a day to remember with deep reverence the boundless kindness of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the supreme leader of Tibet, for bestowing upon us the precious gift of a truly democratic system for the benefit of Tibet and the Tibetan people.

Today, on this momentous occasion of the sixty-fifth anniversary of Tibetan Democracy Day, concurrent with the global observance of the ‘Year of Compassion’ in celebration of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday, the Kashag extends its heartiest greetings to all the distinguished guests, the Tibetan people, and to all who are celebrating in their respective localities.

Many opinion makers are of the view that in the international relations between the countries , there are no permanent enemies and no no permanent friends. In support of this view, they point out the ongoing stress in the relationship between India and the US, while a few years back, Indian Prime Minister Modi and US President Trump went overboard and hugged each other in friendship. In the case of present bonhomie in relationship between India and China, during the meeting before the SCO event, Indian Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that both the countries should work together for mutual benefits, whereas in the past, there have been bitter wars several times between India and China when soldiers from both the sides lost their lives.

DHARAMsALA 27 Aug: A monk from the Tsang Monastery in Amdo region of occupied Tibet has been arbitrarily arrested by Chinese authorities allegedly for “sending money abroad” during the period surrounding the 90th birthday of the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet.

DHARAMSALA, 26 Aug: Student for a Free Tibet(SFT) has conferred its annual Lhakar Awards, honouring the SFT France chapter and Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Anna Kwok for activism in exile, while recognising imprisoned climate activist Anya(A-Nya) Sengdra with the Lhakar award for courage.

DHARAMSALA 25 Aug: In a land where all avenues of dissent are sealed off, Geshe Shersang Gyatso, a 52-year-old leader of Tsang Monastery in the Amdo region of occupied Tibet, took his own life on 18 August as a final act of resistance against China’s escalating repression at the monastery.

DHARAMSALA, 21 August: Chinese President Xi Jinping is in Tibet to take part in the celebration marking the 60th anniversary of the founding of the so-called Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), a colonial administrative entity created by Beijing in 1965 to fragment the historical Tibetan Region and streamline its rule over the occupied territory.

DHARAMSALA, 20 Aug: A video circulating on social media shows Tibetan activist Gonpo Kyi lying on the ground after reportedly jumping from the second floor of Lhasa’s Yak Hotel in occupied Tibet. According to reports, she had been placed under tight surveillance at the hotel after staging another protest against the ongoing denial of her right to visit her imprisoned brother, prominent Tibetan businessman and philanthropist Dorjee Tashi.
