Dalai Lama calls on TYC to unearth historical evidence of Tibet’s independence

DHARAMSALA, 20 June: His Holiness the Dalai Lama has stressed on the importance to unearth historical evidence of Tibet’s independence to the Tibetan Youth Congress, the largest Tibetan NGO supporting complete independence for Tibet. 

The Tibetan spiritual leader has made the remarks while the delegates of the 17th General Body Meeting of TYC who have gathered here in Dharamsala, the exile headquarter of the Tibetan people received an audience with him yesterday at his residence. 

“It is important that we should strive to unearth historical evidence of Tibet’s independence,” the Dalai Lama has said.

The Tibetan Nobel Laureate has further said that the passing generation of Tibetans in Tibet have carried the Tibetan movement with their indomitable spirit and the responsibility now befalls on the Tibetan youths in exile to carry forward the baton.

As many as 90 TYC delegates who have remained in Dharamsala, including the outgoing and the new executive members of the TYC were granted the audience with the Dalai Lama two days after the conclusion of their 17th General Body Meeting.

TYC began their 17th General Body Meeting at the MCD hall in Lower Dharamshala on 11 June.

The meeting concluded on 16 June with the election of the new members of the 17th Central Executive Committee of the TYC by 150 TYC members who have gathered from the organisation’s 45 chapters spread across the world.

At the meeting, the TYC passed the resolution to reduce its Central Executive Committee numbers from 10 -7. 

Gonpo Dhondup was elected the new President with Lobsang Tsering, with Lobsang Tsering as the Vice President and Sonam Tsering, as the new General Secretary.

Penpa Tsering, Tenzin Lhamo, Yeshe Chosang, and Mr Tsewang Rabgay are the four other Central Executive committee members.

General Body Meeting, held after every three years is the highest decision-making body of the TYC.
