European Parliamentary delegation condemns China, supports Middle Way Approach
“We follow the Middle Way Approach of His Holiness. We are of course against the so-called re-education policy in China. We always protest against the suppression of Tibetan people and you have to have the right to education, right to use your language and preserve your culture and other opportunities to survive and to revive the very clean environment of Tibet,” MEP Thomas Mann who led the delegation said at the press conference held earlier today at the Kashag Secretariat hall here in Gangchen Kyishong.
The delegates, MEPs Thomas Mann, Csaba Sogor and Ramon Tremosa who were are also members of the Tibet Interest Group in the European Parliament are on a six-day visit to Dharamshala.
MEP Csaba Sogor said that he hopes the EU member states, politicians and the citizens of the EU will listen to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and further urged Tibetans to be prepared for the long-term future.
“We should be prepared for a time when the Chinese communist system will disappear,” MEP Csaba Sogor said.
“We are not a completely free person if freedom is forbidden in another part of the world and human rights are not respected,” MEP Ramon Tremosa said highlighting the suppression of Tibetans in Tibet.
Representative Tashi Phuntsok from the Office of Tibet, Brussels who facilitated the delegation’s visit to Dharamsala the headquarter of the Dalai Lama and the CTA sends a strong message to China as it signifies the EU’s continued support for Tibet.
The European Parliamentary delegation who were at the tail end of their visit has so far had an audience with the Dalai Lama, met with President of the CTA Dr Lobsang Sangay and visited the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute, Tibet Museum, Tibetan Children’s Village, Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) and various NGO’s in Dharamshala.
