DHARAMSALA, September 5: The speaker of Manipur Assembly, Yunnan Khemchand, has invited His Holiness the Dalai Lama to visit Manipur to attend international peace conference in October.
“Spiritual leader of Tibetan people, Dalai Lama, is likely to visit Manipur to attend international peace conference in October,” Imphal Free Press quoted Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker, Y. Khemchand Singh as saying in its report.
The report further stated that Khemchand had personally requested the Tibetan spiritual leader to visit Manipur and give message of peace which he described as the need of the hour.
The Speaker is said to have met with the Dalai Lama during his visit to Dharamsala on the side lines of a conference on ‘Tribals of India and Social issues’, held recently at Himachal Pradesh University in Shimla. The conference was aimed to bring peace in the north eastern states.
Though no tentative dates have been finalised, the Tibetan Nobel Laureate is said to have responded positively to the invitation of the Speaker of Manipur Assembly.
