Nepal accuses India of encroachment, turn blind eye towards Chinese annexation

DHARAMSALA, 23 June: While Nepal has accused India of encroachment into Nepalese territory, China has occupied part of Nepal.

“When the government, lawmakers, intellects and civil society are busy talking about Indian ‘encroachment’ in Kalapani, Lipu Lekh, and Limpiyadhura area, they seem less concerned about China’s encroachment in the village of Gorkha,” reported the Annapurna Post.

China has occupied the Rui village in Gorkha district of Nepal, the report said and alleged: “utter negligence of the government and indifference of the high government officials made room for Chinese intrusion over a village consisting 72 households.”

Having encroached the chunk of the land from Gorkha region of Nepal, China has annexed it to its occupied Tibet, the report added.

According to the report, “although the area of Rui Gaun is still included in the map in all these years, the area is under Chinese control as the border pillars are moved so as to validate the encroachment.”

China has occupied Rui village adjacent to Tibet since long back irrespective of the opposition by the residents of the village, it added.

Numerous media reports also accused Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli administration of starting the border row with India to divert public attention to divert the people’s attention in Nepal.

“Nepal lost both Rui and Tegha villages in the northern part of Gorkha district due to the negligence at the time of fixing pillars,” Nepalese historian Ramesh Dhungel was quoted as saying in the report.

Additionally, China has encroached upon at least 10 places in Nepal amounting to  33 hectares of Nepal’s land by diverting the flow of rivers which acts as a natural boundary between the two countries, ANI reported quoting a Nepalese government report.

Earlier this month, Oli’s government unveiled a new map of Nepal that claimed Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh of Uttarakhand as part of its sovereign territory.

India condemned Nepal’s new official map as “artificial” and called it unacceptable.

The landlocked country has been cosying up to China of late while ties between New Delhi and Kathmandu deteriorated.
