Southern Tibet hit by twin earthquake

DHARAMSALA, May 24: Two earthquakes measuring 5.3 magnitudes hit Shigatse and Dhingri in southern Tibet on Sunday morning according to China Earthquake Networks Center.
The first quake hit Shigatse City in Tibetan Autonomous Region at 9:48 a.m. (local time).
The epicenter was recorded at 28.36 degrees north latitude and 87.6 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 10 km.
The second quake struck at 10:05 a.m. in Dhingri County with its epicenter at 28.41 degrees north latitude and 87.59 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 6 kms.
The two shallow earthquakes have not caused any major damages or casualties. “No casualties or building damage has been reported so far,” Soring, the director of the regional seismological bureau confirmed in the official statement.
Earlier on May 12, a shallow earthquake measuring 5.5 on Richter scale struck Chamdo in eastern Tibet which injured 60 people, damaged bridges and houses, and caused landslides.
