Tibet House US Benefit Concert to be held on March 11th

DHARAMSALA, Jan 18: Eagle’s guitarist Joe Walsh, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith and English rock band New Order are all slated to perform at the 24th annual Tibet House US Benefit Concert.

The star-studded show will take place on March 11, 2014 at New York City’s Carnegie Hall, where the event is traditionally held.

Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal and her husband Peter Sarsgaard have been named honorary chairpersons of the event which will also see performances from The National guitarist Bryce Dessner, Tibetan singer Techung, and composers Philip Glass and Nico Muhly.

Last year’s benefit concert featured Patti Smith, Tibetan singer Tenzin Choegyal, Tune-Yards, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, Ariel Pink and Rahzel, as well as This American Life host Ira Glass.

“When you get to the point where people are lighting themselves on fire just to protest, it seems like it’s a very horrible place to live,” said Tune-Yards bassist Nate Brenner last year.

“We just wanted to do what we could to raise awareness of it.”

Proceeds from the concert will benefit Tibet House US, which aims to promote and preserve Tibetan culture by serving as both a cultural center in New York City and an online global resource for those interested in Tibetan civilization.

Tibet House US was founded in 1987 at the request of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
