Dharamsala to have Buddha theme park soon

DHARAMSALA, 30 Jan: Himachal Pradesh’s winter capital, the picturesque Dharamsala will soon have a mega Buddha theme park.

The authorities are searching for a spot to acquire 300 kanals (37.5 Acre) to build a mega Buddha theme park at the exiled seat of the Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, TOI reported.

According to the report, Khaniyara, a suburb of Dharamshala town, situated in the foothills of Dhauladhar mountains, is one of the proposed sites for the project.

The Buddha theme park which will be the biggest of its kind in the state will have a space for hosting thousand of persons, along with their stay and meals. The park will also have a convention and Buddhist research centres, the report said citing the project report.

The project in the pipeline will receive funds of around Rs 80 crore from the Asian Development Bank, it added.

Efforts are underway in this regard and revenue teams have also visited the proposed site, the report said citing the Rakesh Kumar Prajapati, the deputy commissioner of Kangra.

Dharamsala, located in the upper reaches of Himachal’s Kangra valley is frequented by tourists, both local and foreigners owing to the town’s picturesque surroundings and the presence of the Dalai Lama.

The mega Buddha theme park will become another attraction for the tourists in the vicinity.
