China appoints two Tibetans in the leadership of so-called Tibetan Autonomous Region while Dalha faces alleged corruption charges

DHARAMSALA 24, Jan: Former Top Tibetan official of Tibet Autonomous (TAR), Mr Che Dalha (Qi Zhala), is being investigated by China’s top anti-corruption watchdogs over suspected violation of Party disciplines and National laws, reported China’s state-run media Xinhua News Agency on 23 January.
With no further details on the allegations against the Tibetan leader under the Chinese Communist Party’s(CCP) payroll in occupied Tibet, the announcement was made by the communist party of China’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and National Commission of Supervision. Dalha, who is under investigation, is a senior political advisor and currently a member of the standing committee of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC.
A day earlier, at the third session of the 12th People’s Congress of China’s so-called Tibet Autonomous Region on 22 January, Yan Jinhai, a Tibetan and a veteran of the communist party, was elected as the Director of the Standing Committee of the 12th People’s Congress of the Tibet Autonomous Region while Karma Tseten was elected as the Chairman of China’s so-called Tibet Autonomous Region.
Yan Jinhai, was born in March 1962. A former chairman of the so-called Tibet Autonomous Region Government (2022-2024), he served as the Secretary of the Party Group of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of China’s so-called Tibet Autonomous Region.
He also served as the Chairman of the so-called Tibet Autonomous Region between 2017 and 2021 and took the position of deputy head of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the National Committee of the CPPCC in March 2023.
Karma Tsetan was born in 1967 in Derge Jomda county in the traditional Tibetan province of Kham. He is a member of the Communist Party of China and held multiple offices before taking up the current position. In November 2024, he was appointed as the acting chairman of the regional government.
