80 TYC activists detained for storming Chinese Embassy in Delhi

DHARAMSALA, March 9: Around 80 activists from the Tibetan Youth Congress(TYC), were detained by Delhi police for protesting at the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi, a day ahead of the 59th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day.
The activists from the largest Tibetan NGO in exile has stormed the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi before they were detained by the police as they commemorated the 59th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising day.
“A total of 80 TYC activists were detained for protesting at the Chinese embassy in New Delhi, earlier this morning to commemorate the March 10, 1959, Uprising,” TYC President Tenzing Jigme said.
TYC has expressed serious concern on the current critical situation in Tibet and demanded the Chinese President Xi Jinping to end the illegal occupation of Tibet in their press release to commemorate the March 10, 1959, Uprising in the Tibetan capital.
“March 10, 2018, marks 59 years since the Lhasa Uprising in 1959. On that day, Tibetans stood up against the Chinese government with the courage and determination to proclaim and protect the Tibetan Government and His Holiness the Dalai Lama,” the TYC’s press release read.
With the self-immolation of Tsekho, a 44-year-old Tibetan from the restive Ngaba region’s Meruma Township on March 7, over a 152 Tibetans have self-immolated inside Tibet since 2009 protesting China’s illegal occupation and their repressive policies.
As the saga of fiery protests by the Tibetans continues, the largest Tibetan NGO in exile has stated that the Tibet today faces a life-and-death situation while the communist regime continues their hard-line failed policies and uses force and intimidation to silence the Tibetan people.
“As long as the occupation continues, and as long as the communist government continues with their hardline policies – the struggle and resistance of Tibetans will continue”, the TYC President Tenzing Jigme said.
The TYC’s statement concluded by stating that Xi Jinping and the Chinese communist government must be held accountable for their actions while it urged the international community to work towards introducing measures to end China’s illegal occupation of Tibet.
Tibetan Youth Congress in collaboration with the Tibetan Women’s Association, Gu-Chu-Sum Movement Association of Tibet, National Democratic Party of Tibet and Students for a Free Tibet-India has planned a series of events to commemorate the 59th Tibetan National Uprising Day on March 10 and the 10th anniversary of the 2008 mass protests on 14th March; two crucial days of resistance and pay tribute to the resilience and sacrifice of the Tibetan martyrs.
The group has planned a peace march from Tsuklakhang to Dharamshala police ground on March 10, screening of documentary films on the 2008 Uprising on March 11, public talk on March 13 and a mass peace march from Sandasthal to Jantar Mantar in Delhi on March 14.
